Skype just announced that if you have Verizon wireless, you can call globally using your smartphone! This is great news! Now you are not stuck to your computer if you want to use the calling system you have grown to love!

If you have an Android, or Blackberry phone, you can use the 3G network to use Skype at those great rates Skype has. I think this is a pretty good deal! I am not sure of all the ins and outs, so take a close look at the terms of service and all that. I just got the email from Skype a few minutes ago.

I’ll tell you this, it won’t take me long to jump on this bandwagon. I just gotta get me a smartphone and I will be all set. Maybe I’ll call the Queen. Do you think she has Skype?

P.S. I have been using Skype more and more. I am thinking of dumping my home phone and just using my mobile and Skype. What do you think?

I wrote a while back about staying connected with people using Skype. I still think this is a great way to go. The sound quality is great and the expense is much less than you would spend with a more conventional method. One of the things that I found was that using a headset is much better. Now the problem with that is most headsets are attached to the computer by a short cord, not more than six feet. That’s where the Plantronics .Audio 995 Wireless Stereo Headset comes in!

Now you may think that this is not worth the price, but I can tell you it is and the price has come down since I bought mine. It figures!

This post will be a bit of a rant I am afraid. I am just about finished reloading every program I have back on my computer. This is the fourth or fifth time that it has crashed and I had to rebuild the whole thing. My suggestion to you is, if you are in the market for a new computer, buy a good one!

What do I mean by a good computer? The short answer is, buy an Apple. I have been a PC guy for all my life. I am now on my sixth or seventh PC. Now I admit, I spend a lot of time on my computer. It works nearly twelve hours a day and I often have more than one program running at the same time.

The problem is, they just don’t hold up! Part of it is the Windows operating system. Every hacker and virus maker in the world focuses on PCs. For one thing, the system is much easier to break into than what a Mac uses and more people use PCs than Macs. Why? The price. They think they are saving money, but by the time they buy the software to protect them from viruses, spyware, and the rest, they could have just bought a Mac.

You can get a cheap PC for around three hundred dollars. It is a piece of junk, but then you knew that buying it; or not. About the cheapest Mac I know of is the Macbook which sells for just under a thousand. It will do everything you want it to do and it will do it faster and better than PC, but you get what you pay for. I will admit that there are still a few programs out there that are not Mac compatible, but they are very far and few between and the software today works around most of those problems.

Now I admit, I still don’t own one, but I can tell you this, I will never buy another PC ever! I know nearly a dozen people, eight, I think, that own Macs and have never so much as had a virus, let alone have it crash! One person used her’s all through college and that included Grad school, post grad, doctorate and post doctorate. She is still using it as a professor!

I’ll say it again! If you are in the market for a new computer and want something that is easy to use, won’t break, and will be there for you for years, buy a Mac! You can buy it online and have it shipped right to your door! Like they say, once you go Mac, you’ll never go back! Apple MacBook MC207LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop

P.S. If you don’t want a laptop, you can get the Apple iMac MB950LL/A 21.5-Inch Desktop instead. It is great and takes up so little room on the desk! Everything is all in the monitor, well almost everything!

Just recently, like last week, I had to buy a new printer. My old one finally bit the dust! I really didn’t want to buy a new one, you know what a hassle it can be, but the old one just stopped working.

The printer I bought, the Canon pixma 560 wireless, seems to be a good one. The one thing I really like about it is it does incredible photos! I mean, my wife wanted a picture of the grand-kids and it came out every bit as good as what I would get from the local photo processor.

This printer also prints much faster than the old printer. I would say that it prints nearly twice as fast!

The only thing that I am still unsure of is the ink cartridges. They are pretty small and I am not sure how long they are going to last. I will say they are cheaper than the cartridges in the old printer.

If you think you might be in the market for a new printer, I would recommend the Canon PIXMA 560 wireless. It works great!

Aiptek HD

The Aiptek Action HD GVS 1080P High Definition Camcorder is the coolest thing ever! This is the camera that I am going to buy in the next month or so. It takes great pictures, but it also will take a plug-in microphone so that you can get better sound. Great for someone who wants to use it in a more professional manner or who wants to be heard over crowd noises!

I bought a different camera for about twenty dollars less and it isn’t worth a hundred dollars less. It takes movies, but that’s about it! This camcorder is one of the best in my humble opinion. Check out the reviews over at Amazon if you don’t believe me!

Buy this camera now! It is worth it!

Vizio

Here’s a nice little Vizio TV that will bring in that digital stuff real nice. It also handles HD whatever that is! I think this would be a nice little job to sit on my dresser in the bedroom. You know, just in case I want to watch that fishing show on late night TV!

Hp Photosmart

I really need a new camera! Our old digital is about the size of a small toaster and I think it hold four pictures. You only need a Master’s degree in electronics to run the Danged thing.

This HP point and shoot looks like a good one. I can’t believe the price! I don’t know if you have priced these bad boys lately but under sixty bucks is a steal! I might buy two and sell the other one for sixty-five and buy me a real nice bottle of booze with the five bucks profit!

Motorola Bluetooth

I don’t know about you, but nothing pis… makes me madder than having my bluetooth flop around while I’m wearing it. OK, so I’m a little sensitive, but I hate that feeling that if I turn me head just a little that damned thing is going to fall off and I’ll never find it again.

My son has one of these Motorola H700′s and it is the greatest thing ever. Sticks right to his head and doesn’t move! He gets better reception than me too! (Dang Kid!)

My Niece got one o them Zhu Zhu Hamster things. I haven’t seen it, but she seems to love the thing. My wife just made some clothes for it. Wish I could get her to sew the sleeve back on my shirt!

Kindle

I just had my hunderd and fifth birthday and the kiddees got me a Kindle.
I really love this thing! I already read a bunch, but I’m gonna read a lot more now!

The Kindle is easy to carry around and you don’t have to worry about dropping those fourteen books you’re carrying. They’re all in one little place!

The average price for a book is $9.99 they say, but I haven’t paid that much yet, of course I’ve only had it a couple of days.

I tried out the thing that makes it read to you and I gotta say it does sound a bit like a robot, but not bad really.

The neat think is, you don’t have to remember to put your book mark back in cause it fires up right to the page you left off from. It’s great!
